Most seniors will book their photography session for the summer before their senior year starts or during the fall.
Fall is super popular and crazy busy, so if you're hoping for this time of year, it's best to schedule a full session at least 3 months in advance as these are snatched up quickly.
This ensures you have plenty of time for yearbook submissions, prints, and announcements.
The sitting fee, which covers the time of the session, is $250, with $50 being due at booking to save a date on the calendar. The remainder is due on or before the day of the session.
Email me at katie@katielouisephotography.com or use the contact form through the website to let me know.
I always respond within 24-48 hours. Remember to check your spam if you don't receive a response by then.
Most seniors choose an outdoor location.
The most popular spots are Mingo Creek County Park, Mellon Park, the High Line and Hartwood Acres Mansion (travel fees apply).
If you need a yearbook photo that needs to be taken at the studio, we usually stop at mine in Bridgeville before heading to the outdoor session.
Or you can pop in another day since this will only take about 10 minute.
All outdoor session take place 1.5-2 hours before sunset.
A full session typically lasts 1.5 to 2 hours. If the kids are older or you have teenagers, usually I can get everything we need in less time.
Most senior girls have 2-4 outfits, and boys have 1-3. I always recommend choosing outfits that reflect your personality—casual, dressy, or sport/activity-based.
Jeans, sandals or boots, and a tee or sweater is a perfect combo for girls, followed by a flowy dress for summer sessions.
For boys, jeans or khakis with sneakers or boots and a flannel work great for the fall.
There are tons of options, and when you check the location blog above you'll also get a good idea of outfit inspo!
I always tell my senior clients that they can text me outfits they're thinking of if they need a little help!
Since we live in Pittsburgh, this is always something we deal with! The forecast can literally show four seasons in one day, so I usually wait until the night before or morning of to make a decision.
The sun is hard to come by in the fall and winter months, so if it's going to be cloudy or overcast I do not usually reschedule. However, these are more of a one-time thing, unlike yearly family photos, so if you're really hoping for sun I always do my best. If I have a free day and we know the weather will be 10x nicer, then I will always offer this date to maternity and senior clients first.
Usually the only reason for rescheduling will be heavy rain, hail, snow or high winds.
If we do need to reschedule we'll decide on a date at the time since I cannot reserve two dates per clients.
I usually have a lint roller, but having one yourself couldn't hurt, and a hairbrush (and maybe hairspray) helps too!
Makeup/lipgloss for any touchups we might need. And girls should check their nails ahead of time as these will not be included in editing.
Sometimes girls will also bring flower bouquets or single stems. This is a perfect idea if the session is at Hartwood Acres or Mellon since they both have flower gardens.
If you're involved in any sports or extra curricular activities, feel free to bring a basketball, instrument, school ring or jacket,
medals or trophies, and anything else that reflects what your interests are at this age.
1-2 days after the session, I will send the proofing gallery. These will be watermarked and cannot be downloaded yet. You will have one week to choose and pay for a collection (separate from the sitting fee). Once you've chosen and paid for your favorites, I'll do final edits which will include most blemish removal, fixing distracting fly-aways, and filling in the backdrop if needed. If you have any questions about editing, please let me know ahead of time. Advanced blemish removal will have an additional charge simply because it takes longer to edit.
Final edits usually takes 10-14 business days, excluding Mondays and holidays.
After you receive your gallery with the final edits, you'll be able to download the high-resolution images, as well as have access to the online store for ordering high-quality prints.
There's a huge difference between looking at pictures on your phone and holding them in your hands.
Each gallery gives you access to an online store where you can order prints, but many collections include products like my favorite- the fine art album. Sometimes it's hard to know what you might like or how big you'll need something to be. I always offer a free meeting where I can help you with this, so you're not figuring it out alone! I also offer beautiful linen folio boxes that come with a few collections, as well as different size albums and wall portraits, that will are awesome to have as keepsakes.
If your session takes place at the studio, you'll be able to look through all the sample products during or after the session!
